96 in 1 Multipac

Well, I couldn't wait and decided to order Mike Doyle's 96 in 1 Multipac.

This board is fantastic.  For those of you that don't know, it is an add on that lets you transform your existing Pac-Man or Ms Pac-Man into a bunch of games that can run on that existing hardware.
  • Pacman Slow
  • Pacman Fast
  • Pacman Plus Slow
  • Pacman Plus Fast
  • Ms Pacman Slow
  • Ms Pacman Fast
  • Ms Pacman Plus Slow
  • Ms Pacman Plus Fast
  • Super Pac
  • Eyes
  • Mr TNT
  • Cookiemon (version A)
  • Pacrabbit (3D with jumping)
  • Ms & Mrs Pacman (version A)
  • Pengo
  • Alien Armada
  • Piranha (version B)
  • Caterpillar (version B)
Notice that there are two revisions above.  Revision A has Ms & Mrs Pacman which is 2 players, which I didn't care for, esp since I didn't have a cocktail.  So I went for version B.  Simple as that.

Neo Geo anyone?

I couldn't resist.  Seriously, I was looking through Craigslist and happened upon this Neo Geo MVS cabinet, for $50.  Boo-ya!

It came with two games, Samurai Shodown and Puzzle Bobble.  I always loved the Samurai Shodown series, and Puzzle Bobble is lots of fun (and who doesn't love the little dinosaurs from Bubble Bobble?).

The guy brought it to the house, I paid, and there we are.  I bought it knowing that the monitor wasn't working right.  He said the board worked.  Well, that isn't quite correct.  After hooking it up to a spare monitor I had lying around, tt boots up, but gives a memory read error, which is pretty common for these systems.  The nvram battery ends up corroding and leaking over the traces on the board.  I've ordered a logic probe and between that and my DMM, I should be able to figure out what's wrong and fix it!

On the plus side, the monitor does turn on and you get a neck glow, just no picture.  Likely something wrong with the chassis of the monitor.  I'll have to investigate and see what's wrong there.

To really get it looking good, I'll have to get a MVS 2-slot marquee, and some paper marquees for the games I own.  The plexiglass bezel is scratched, so need a new clear one, along with a plastic monitor cover.  The control panel could use some love, and some of the buttons are missing microswitches.  Also needs new T-molding and some of the wood in the back looks like it has water damage, so that needs to be replaced.

Seems like a fun fixer upper, and I couldn't have bought the MVS cartridges alone for $50, so good deal!

Here's a couple of links for MVS info and neo geo repair:

Till next time!

Ms Nom Nom Nom

Ahhh.  Ms Pacman.  Sexy little nom nom.

Seems like only yesterday (read: 25 years ago) that I threw quarters at you and chomped up little white pellets.  Ate some ghosts.  Ran after fruit.  That damn pretzel.  The memories!

Anyway, while the first cabinet I ever bought was my Defender cabinet (which came with a Gauntlet II board in it, and is now awaiting restoration into a Multi-Williams), this Ms Pacman is the first game I've bought since I decided to embrace this hobby.

So it begins. The story so far...

I hated Ricky Stratten.  His smug little smile.  That giant house.  Super hot Wilma, err, I mean Kate Summers coming by all the time.  Train running through his house.  And of course, all those video game machines.

Oh how I wanted a Pac Man in my house!  Thank God Silver Spoons was cancelled, for more reasons than one.  But that dream, that goal, of owning my own arcade machine never left me.
